More photos by Sam. The Jambless hearth support in basement of original section of house. Note how the bricks blend into the stone wall. This feature is unusual in that it does not start on a corbelled stone projecting from stone wall. This hearth support was for the original jambless fireplace that was on the back wall of orig. building. The fireplace with oak mantle was moved to that wall when the roof line was change to one plane. This particular fireplace was infilled with brick and application of oak mantle installed over original material. Look for restoration process photo on my next post.
