These images are showing the restoration changes to the Rumsford style fireplace. Fire brick was infilled inside the firebox and metal inclosure was installed post @1900. This was removed to reveal the original opening. Seen in this last photo , the opening had this quite unusual arched lintel. This firebox must have smoked because at an early date a smoke shelf was installed and the arch enclosed. Note: the fire back installed was reused from the jambless fireplace that was on back wall of this room.
